I don't get why it's so easy if it's so bad...

Right click.
Copy image location.
Back to forum.
Paste URL.

YOU HORRIBLE PERSON.

Is it really hat bad? Not saying the rule shouldn't be enforced just is it like being Hitler of the internet or just not great? Because I've never seen anywhere else say it's bad, never even heard of the term before being on here.
A lot of things are easy but bad, downloading free films/shows/games/etc is pretty easy but it's still wrong.

Regardless, no one is saying that hotlinking makes you a "horrible person" although I think you do need to read the opening post again.

#1 isn't hard to do, here's something that will help: http://dbzf.co.uk/topic/8296763/1/

#3 can be a problem, here's an old image I made when demonstrating the affects of fileswapping when hotlinking an image.

Spoiler: click to toggle

It could have been replaced with porn or anything else.

#4 linking from attack sites causes problems, as you can see from what has been said.

#5 this is why some sites have anti-hotlinking mesures, they will put a small file in its place when it is hotlinked, I saw one site which used goatse as it's anti-hotlinking image, when someone hotlinked an image on this forum once, which goes back to #3.

I find it hard to believe that this is the only place you know of that has mentioned hotlinking, a lot of sites don't like you hotlinking because you are taking their bandwidth and this can cost money.

Here is some usful reading:
